跨期选择（intertemporal choice）是指对发生在未来不同时间点上的结果做出权衡的决策过程。比如，你愿意一个月后得到200元还是半年后得到300元？由于真实世界中的大部分跨期选择情景都处于某种风险之中，以往研究人员考察了风险对跨期选择的影响，结果发现，相对于无风险条件，人们在风险条件下更不愿意为未来更大的奖励而等待，也就是有更高的时间折扣率。
